What GSSC Offers

League Participation - Two 8-10 Game Seasons: Fall/Spring
GSSC participates in the Western Slope State League, a division of Colorado Soccer Association. The league has a Fall Season (August-October) and a Spring season (March-May.) We offer recreational, developmental and competitive opportunities for players depending on the age level. Coaching positions are volunteer and are supervised by our Board Coaching Committee and Director of Coaching.

Camps & Clinics - 3 Summer Camps
We offer camps in the summer months for players to have the opportunity to continue to train during the off-season. Our camps are usually co-hosted with guest organizations (Scandia, Challenger, and GSSC Club Camp) in an effort to diversify training and bring in top soccer coaches to the area. We also offer occasional clinics for players, for coaches and for referees. As these special events are scheduled, notices will be posted on the home page.

Tournament Play - Glenwood Invitational - Memorial Day Weekend
We host the annual Glenwood Invitational Soccer Tourrnament over Memorial Day Weekend in May. We host around 70 teams in U10 to U15 boys and girls teams. From 8am to 8pm, you can expect to see fun and challenging games -exciting soccer in the valley! Come play, come watch, come volunteer!

Coaches may also offer optional tournament participation throughout the state and region. CSA sanctioned tournaments are listed here.

An Opportunity to Coach Your Kids- Pick your own practice day

All of our coaches are parent volunteers. We are so thankful for their participation in our club and their kids are too! Every season we need more coaches, so if you love soccer please consider registering as a coach when you sign up your player.

When you volunteer to coach your child's team, the cost of their registration is free. You also get to work with us to pick a practice date and time that works with your schedule. Registration for coaching is the same as registering online for soccer, except you register yourself instead of your child.

Goal: Develop understanding of positional and team play through the tactical training of 'rotation' and 'cover', using the principles of '3 around the ball' and '8 in the third of the field where the ball is.'

Training sessions will consist of individual technical training(warm-up and individual activities); small sided games to teach tactical awareness through instruction; larger formatted games to emulate 'match play'.
•Technical/skills training will continue through individual and small sided games
•Tactical/positional training will become more widely used in training sessions. Players should be able to comprehend more thoroughly, the concepts of attacking and defending.

This is a more competitive soccer environment. Rosters are formed by coaching committee based on tryouts and registrations. We do not 'cut' players, but form multiple teams to place players appropriately for continued development. Team formation and league placement

Each age division in the MRL league has a 'Green' and a 'White' division. The 'Green' is considered the top division, the most competitive bracket.

  • GSSC will place one team in the "Green "division at each age bracket. This team will be made up of the players evaluated as the top players in that age group. NOTE: GREEN team selections should commit to making ALL practices and games. If this poses an issue, it is important you speak with Elliot prior to the tryouts so we can accommodate the players who will make this commitment.
  • GSSC will distribute the remaining players in that age group in the 'White' division, forming teams to accommodate all interested players. When possible, these teams will be evenly distributed to provide the best development opportunities.
  • GSSC will have some flexibility/limits in team formation to best accommodate the club player pool for any given season and will be subject to the league alignment decisions.

Team Formation
Tryouts are mandatory for placement on U12, U14 and U18 rosters. They take place in the spring usually the week following our Memorial Day tournament. Teams are formed for Fall and continue thru the following spring season.

These player evaluations are used to help determine the number of teams we need to form and help place players appropriately. We do our best to place all players.

What if you miss tryouts? CONTACT the office. We may need to fill rosters. We may be able to set up alternative evaluations.

Player Age Defined

Register your child according to the following chart. A player's birth year will determine the bracket placement for the entire school year: both the Fall and Spring soccer seasons.

Note: In some cases players will be allowed to play up to the next aged division. This must be approved by DOC before placement.
