Mission Statement

The goal of the Glenwood Springs Soccer Club is to offer an affordable soccer program to all children in the Glenwood Springs area, to develop skillful soccer players, and to promote good sportsmanship. We will provide both developmental and competitive playing opportunities to accommodate the different skill levels of our players and we will provide training opportunities for our volunteer coaching staff.

Club History

  • 1979 Glenwood Springs Soccer Club (GSSC) was officially formed with membership at 175 players.
  • 1989 GSSC parents petitioned Glenwood Springs High School to adopt soccer as an official high school sport.
  • 1990 GSSC joined Colorado State Youth Soccer Association.
  • 1993 Partnership with the City of Glenwood Springs emphasized to focus on field availability.
  • 1994 Western Slope State League (WSSL) was formed to promote opportunities for competition on the western slope.
  • 1996 Partnership established with Colorado Mountain College for field development. Five fields were built with a Gates Family Foundation Grant for $525,000 and tremendous local support from Glenwood non-profit organizations, in-kind contributions from local contractors, and the efforts of community volunteers.
  • 1998 GSSC held the first Memorial Day Soccer Tournament at Gates Soccer Complex. Membership is now at 300 players.
  • 2001 GSSC held its first summer soccer camps.
  • 2003 The Friday Jamboree was established to introduce our younger children (under 6) to soccer.
  • 2006 GSSC was awarded a CYS Field Improvement Grant for Gates Soccer Complex. ($6200)
  • 2008 GSSC hosted its 10th annual Memorial Day Soccer Tournament. A new logo was adopted for the Club. Membership is now at 425 players.
  • 2012 GSSC was awarded a CYS Field Improvement Grant for Gates Soccer Complex. ($7000 for irrigation improvements.)
  • 2018 FCG hosted its 20th annual Memorial Day Soccer Tournament
  • 2019 FCG fields its first CSA Champions League team - Girls U19

Volunteer Opportunities

FC Glenwood is a family club. We depend on volunteers to be involved every step of the way to ensure the success of our program. Every family is asked to volunteer at least four hours per season to help support club activities.


Here are some ways to get involved!

  • Coach - Practice 2-3 hours a week + Games on Saturdays
  • Assistant Coach - Practice 2-3 hours a week, Games on Saturdays
  • Team Manager - Phone Calls, Emails, Organizational details as needed
  • Publicity - Write occasional games highlights to publish in local paper
  • Referee - Become certified and ref home games
  • Fields - Help line fields as needed
  • Equipment/Uniforms - Help inventory, order, distribute and collect gear and uniforms
  • Team Sponsor - Contribute to help support players who need financial assistance
  • Scholarship Donor - Contribute to help support players who need financial assistance
  • Board Member - Serve the soccer community in organizational leadership
  • Board Sub Committees - Serve at committee level with specific focus of interest/experience
  • Tournament - Work our largest fund-raising event - the Memorial Day Tournament
